Olympic Barbell Clean

Performance Notes

A core exercise using a basic Olympic weightlifting movement to develop explosive power. You may start squatting over the barbell (an Olympic bar with rubberized bumper plates) on the floor, or standing while holding it at knee level (this is called a “hang clean”). Use a pronated (over-hand) grip. In brief, you pull the bar upward by shrugging it up, going onto your toes, then quickly drop down into a squat to get under it, swinging it up to your shoulders. Olympic-style lifts are more about technique and speed than strength.
