The Training Center Health and Safety Plan for WC Eagles Field Hockey Club Summer Skills Program

Participating Players and their Parents must read and fully abide by The Training Center’s Health and Safety Plan, prepared in accordance with the Centers for Desease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Guidelines, to participate in the WC Eagles Field Hockey Club’s Summer Camp Program.

The Training Center’s Health and Safety plan has been implemented to help protect our participants, their families, and our staff.

I. MAINTAINING HEALTHY OPERATIONS
A. Small Groups and Contact

  • Our participants will stay together in small groups with a dedicated staff member, and will remain with the same group throughout each and every day.
  • Our staff will limit mixing between groups if possible.
  • Participants will remain at least 6 feet apart and will not share their equipment (sticks, gloves, etc) with other participants.
  • Practices and games will be modified to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus. This will include focusing on individual skill building versus competition and contact will be limited
  • Participants and staff should avoid shaking hands, fist bumps, or high fives before, during or after games and practices.
  • There will be limited contact between coaches, staff and participants, as well as between participants.
  • Participants should come fully dressed and ready to play; the changing of outfits / footwear at The Training Center will not be permitted.
  • Water breaks will be staggered to promote social distancing.

B. Arrival and Departure Procedures

  • Parents should only transport participants who are members of their own household. Plan to drop off your child no more than 5 minutes prior to the start of your child’s session.
  • Parents should take their child’s temperature either before coming to the facility or upon arrival at the facility and be prepared to inform the staff that their child does not have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or other symptoms of COVID-19.   • Upon arrival, participants should stay in their cars on the gravel parking lot, which runs parallel with the length of the field, until signaled by a staff member’s whistle to enter the field. Participants will enter the field via the gate next to the pavilion and go directly to their coach in their designated area of the field, ensuring that they maintain social distancing with the other participants.
  • Parents must immediately leave this parking lot when the participants have left their car. Parents must either leave the premises or park in the Soccer Field Parking Lot. If parents choose to park in the Soccer Field Parking Lot they must stay in their cars and cannot congregate together or walk within close proximity to the perimeter of the field hockey turf.
  • Upon departure, the participants will leave the field via the gate on the bench side of the field, maintaining social distancing, and walk directly to meet their parents who will be waiting in their car in the Soccer Field Parking Lot. The vehicles must leave the premises as soon as the participants are safely in their seats.
  • Participants are to leave The Training Center immediately after the end of their session.
  • Parents should refrain from attending the practices and camp.

C. Designated COVID-19 Point of Contact

  • Richard Kentwell will be the designated staff person who will be responsible for responding to COVID-19 concerns. He can be contacted by email at richard@wcfieldhockey.com or telephone at 484-995-4163.

D. Communication Systems

  • Consistent with applicable law and privacy policies, staff and families should self-report to the designated COVID-19 contact person, Richard Kentwell, if they have symptoms of COVID-19, a positive test for COVID-19, or were exposed to someone with COVID-19 within the last 14 days in accordance with health information sharing regulations for COVID-19 and other applicable privacy and confidentiality policies, laws and regulations.
  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will protect the privacy of people at higher risk for severe illness regarding underlying medical conditions in accordance with applicable privacy and confidentiality policies, laws and regulations.
  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will notify families of program closures and restrictions in place to limit COVID-19 exposure should they be necessary, and policies will be developed for a return to the program.

II. MAINTAINING HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS
A. Cleaning and Disinfection

  • Frequently touched surfaces (equipment, door handles, sink handles, drinking fountains, faucets) within the facility will be cleaned and disinfected at least daily or between use as much as possible.
  • All equipment is disinfected at the end of each day or more frequently as needed.
  • Use of shared objects, if any, will be limited when possible or cleaned between use.
  • Our staff will follow a schedule for increased, routine cleaning and disinfection of the facility and frequently touched surfaces.
  • Gloves will be used by staff members when removing garbage bags or handling and disposing of trash. Our staff will wash their hands after removing gloves.
  • Parents are advised that any vehicles used for shared transportation should also be cleaned and disinfected at least daily or between use as much as possible.

B. Personal Belongings of Participants

  • Each participant and staff member should keep their personal belongings separate from the personal belongings of other participants/staff members. Any water bottles, containers, bags, etc. should be individually labeled with each participant or staff member’s name.
  • Personal belongings and equipment should not be shared between participants or staff members.

C. Water and Food Items

  • Participants and staff should bring their own water
  • The use of water fountains will be prohibited
  • Drinks will be available to purchase from vending machines and a sanitizing station will be placed next to the vending machines.
  • All water bottles should be labeled with each participant or staff member’s name.
  • Participants and staff should bring their own snacks, lunches or food items, which should not be shared with other participants or staff members.
  • Participants and staff should eat in separate areas or with their smaller group, while maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet apart as much as possible.

D. Field Layouts and Etiquette

  • The field will be laid out in four (4) areas of 50 yards by 30 yards.
  • Skill activities will be prioritized so that participants can maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet apart as much as possible.
  • Participants will train in their own quadrants as much as possible, at least 6 feet apart from each other.
  • There is no spitting (either saliva or water) or chewing gum allowed on the field at any time.
  • Participants and staff should wash their hands thoroughly before leaving home, and wash or sanitize their hands again before entering the field.
  • Before the start of a session, coaches will explain measurements and restrictions to their participants.
  • Water breaks will be staggered within the small groups to reinforce social distancing.
  • Coaches will take into account that participants have not practiced for an extended period of time and will build up training sessions slowly and responsibly.
  • All training equipment is set up prior to participants’ arrival on the field.

III. PROMOTING BEHAVIORS THAT REDUCE SPREAD
A. Stay Home when Appropriate

  • Staff and participants who are sick or have recently had close contact with a person with COVID-19 should stay home.
  • Staff and participants must stay home if they have tested positive for or are showing COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Staff who have recently had close contact with a person with COVID-19 will stay home and monitor their health.
  • Staff will be given appropriate leave and permitted to return to work in accordance with CDC Guidelines.

B. Hand Hygiene, Restroom and Respiratory Etiquette

  • The handicap restroom will be the only restroom open for participants and staff. Only one person will be allowed to enter the restroom at a time.
  • We will strongly reinforce and teach hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds when using the restroom or otherwise. Monitoring will be increased to ensure adherence by participants and staff.
  • Both soap and hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol will be available for use by participants and staff accordingly.
  • Participants and staff are strongly encouraged to sanitize or wash their hands frequently before and after each session.
  • Participants and staff are strongly encouraged to use disinfectant wipes both before and after using the restroom.
  • Participants and staff are strongly encouraged to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Used tissues should be thrown in the trash and hands washed immediately with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Participants and staff should go to the restroom before coming to their session to minimize restroom use at The Training Center.

C. Cloth Face Coverings

  • Although face coverings may be challenging for participants to wear during their skill sessions, face coverings should be worn by staff and participants as feasible. Participants may wear gloves and a face covering for the duration of their session.
  • Face coverings should be worn particularly in times when physical distancing is difficult, such as during group instruction.
  • Coaches and staff should keep their face coverings on at all times and only pull it up when needed.
  • Face coverings should be washed at the end of each day by staff and participants in accordance with CDC Guidelines: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html.

D. Signs

  • Signs will be posted in highly visible locations (e.g., entrances, restrooms) that promote everyday protective measures and describe how to stop the spread of germs such as by properly washing hands, use of disinfectant wipes and properly wearing a cloth face covering. This information will also be posted on our website.

E. Adequate Supplies

  • Healthy hygiene practices will be supported by providing supplies including soap, hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol, paper towels, tissues, disinfectant wipes, cloth face coverings (as feasible), and no-touch/foot pedal trash cans.

F. Recognize Signs and Symptoms

  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will be trained on all safety protocols and recognizing symptoms of COVID-19.
  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will ask parents/guardians to take their child’s temperature either before coming to the facility or upon arrival at the facility.
  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will ask the parent/guardian to confirm that the child does not have fever, shortness of breath or cough.
  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will, while maintaining a distance of 6 feet, make a visual inspection of the child for signs of illness which could include flushed cheeks, rapid breathing or difficulty breathing (without recent physical activity), fatigue, or extreme fussiness.
  • Temperature screening will be available for participants and staff, and will be conducted safely and respectfully, and in accordance with any applicable privacy laws and regulations.

G. Support Coping and Resilience

  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will encourage staff and participants to take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories about COVID-19, including social media if they are feeling overwhelmed or distressed.
  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will promote staff and participants eating healthy, exercising, getting sleep, and finding time to unwind.
  • The Training Center and WC Eagles staff will encourage participants and staff to talk with people they trust about their concerns and how they are feeling.

IV. PREPARING FOR WHEN SOMEONE GETS SICK
A. Participants or Staff Members who become Sick

  • Sick individuals should not come to the summer skills program.
  • Sick individuals will be advised of Home Isolation Criteria and advised that he or she should not return to the program until they have complied with the CDC’s criteria to discontinue home isolation: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/steps-when-sick.html#discontinue-isolation.
  • Participants and staff should notify The Training Center and WC Eagles’ designated COVID-19 point of contact, Richard Kentwell, if they become sick with COVID-19 symptoms, test positive for COVID-19, or have been exposed to someone with symptoms or a confirmed or suspected case.

B. Isolate and Transport Those who are Sick

  • Should a participant or staff member show signs of COVID-19 symptoms (such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath) while attending our program, they will be immediately separated and taken to our Isolation Room.
  • The individuals who are sick will be sent home or to a healthcare facility depending on how severe their symptoms are, and follow CDC guidance: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/if-you-are-sick/index.html.

C. Notify Health Officials and Close Contacts

  • In accordance with state and local laws and regulations, The Training Center and WC Eagles administrators will notify local health officials, staff and families immediately of any case of COVID-19 while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Parents or family will be contacted by phone immediately so they can safely transport their child to their home or to a healthcare facility.
  • Should it be determined that an ambulance needs to be called or someone needs to be transported to the the hospital, we will notify the parents or family accordingly and call the hospital to alert them that the person may have COVID-19.
  • The Training Center and WC Eagles administrators will advise those who have had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 to stay home, self-monitor for symptoms, and follow CDC guidance if symptoms develop.

D. Cleaning and Disinfection

  • Any areas used by a sick person will be closed off. These areas will not be used until after cleaning and disinfecting them (for outdoor areas, this includes surfaces or shared objects in the area, if applicable).
  • We will wait at least 24 hours before cleaning and disinfecting. If 24 hours is not feasible, we will wait as long as possible.
  • We will ensure the safe and correct use and storage of cleaning and disinfection products, including storing them securely away from children.
