We are very proud to announce that our senior midfielder Beth Yeager has been selected to play for the USA Women’s National Team in the upcoming Pro League games against Belgium and Great Britain.
Beth is joined on the tour by two W C Eagles Alumni, Maddie Bacskai and Julianna Tornetta who will also be earning their first USA Caps.
A member of the USA Women’s Indoor National Team, Beth was a Traveling Alternate to the Women’s Indoor World Cup in 2018, and earned Indoor International Caps against the Czech Republic and in the Croatia Cup.
Maddie and Julianna both played for the USA Under 21 Team in the last Pan Am U21 Championships. Maddie has subsequently captained the USA Under 21s.
“I am very pleased to see our players following in Erin Matson’s footsteps and reaching the international level. This is something we strive for every day in our training and games. I know we have more players in our Under 19 who are capable of playing at this level and I hope they will also get the opportunity in the near future. Beth sets an excellent example to all our young players with her focus and dedication and is an inspiration for them all to know that they too can achieve their dreams” commented W C Eagles Head Coach on hearing the news.
WC Eagles rounded out a difficult Indoor Season with outstanding performances in every age group at the National Indoor Tournaments.
The quality of our players showed through as WC Eagles won the coveted A Pool in every age group: Under12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 19 and the top Pool in the Under 10.
Our depth showed as WC Eagles teams won 19 of the 31 Pools they entered, an amazing 61.3%!
This is a tremendous reflection of the hard work, dedication, and attention to detail of our players and coaches throughout the Indoor Season
CONGRATULATIONS to all our players who pushed each other through every training session to continue to develop and improve – from the young ones who are developing a strong core foundation to our graduating players who have been polishing their skills and tactical understanding – Congratulations to you all.

W C Eagles played consistently well against quality opposition to win the 10 team Holland U16 Elite Cup other the first weekend in June.
We opened with Dutch club HV Victoria who had difficulties coping with our strong press and speed of ball movement. After scoring two early goals W C Eagles took control of the game and ran out with an 8 – 0 victory.
Our second game was against the renowned host club HC Den Bosch. Again, W C Eagles took an early lead and were three up at the half. Den Bosch changed their tactics in the second half, moving two strikers high up the field and the game swung from end to end with both teams creating scoring chances. It was Den Bosch who got on the scoreboard, scoring twice in the last eight minutes, but W C Eagles hung on with some fine defensive play for the 3-2 win.
The next morning, we played exceptionally well to beat the Canada National Under 17 team 7 – 0, controlling the game from the start to finish.
In the afternoon we watched two outstanding Pro League Games between the Netherlands and Belgium Women’s and Men’s Teams – Netherlands being the Women’s Olympic and World Cup Champions and Belgium the Men’s World Cup Champions.
On the last morning beat Dutch Club MHS Oss 4 – 0 to win our Pool and face the Czech Republic Junior National Team in the Semi-Final. The Semi-Final was an exciting match against the technically strong Czechs and the score stood at 1 – 0 to W C Eagles at the half. Following some corrections to our press and our distribution out of the back we took control of the game in the second half, scoring three goals without reply to beat the Czech Republic Junior National Team 4 – 0.
The Final brought us together again with HC Den Bosch. Head Coach Jun Kentwell emphasized team shape and the importance maintaining our ball speed and movement off the ball. The first half brought a tight midfield battle with W C Eagles breaking the deadlock to go 1 – 0 up just before half time. W C Eagles took control from the start of the second half, attacking at speed and forcing HC Den Bosch into uncharacteristic turn-overs. W C Eagles took an unassailable 3 – 0 lead before Den Bosch pulled one back in the final minute, and W C Eagles earned a well deserved 3 -1 win and champions of the 2019 Holland U16 Elite Cup.To cap off an outstanding team display, Beth Yeager was awarded the Tournament MVP.
W C Eagles won all three age groups of the USA FH National Club Championships over the past nine days, repeating their success of the previous year, winning all of their 18 games and amassing 125 goals while conceding only 6.
First up were the Under 14. Getting off to a strong start in their Pool W C Eagles secured victories over North East Elite (Massachusetts) 16 – 0, Seacoast United (New Hampshire) 9 – 0 , and Freedom HC (Maryland) 5 – 0, before dispatching Warhawks (Maryland) 5 – 1 in the Quarter Final, Charlotte Ambush (North Carolina) 7 – 0 in the Semi-Final, and AGH (Connecticut) in the Final 3 – 1. This is the 7th consecutive year that W C Eagles Under 14s have been National Club Champions under the leadership of Head Coach Jun Kentwell.
W C Eagles Under 16s got off to a similarly strong start with wins over Central Penn (Pennsylvania) 15 – 0, IFHCK (Kentucky) 8 – 0, and Spirit of USA (New Jersey) 5 – 1, in their Pool. Moving into the Quarter Final, they beat Pinnacle (Michigan) 9 – 2, then AGH (Connecticut) 2 – 0 in the Semi-Final, before scoring a 6 – 0 victory over North East Elite (Massachusetts) in the Final, to be crowned Under National Club Champions for the 6th consecutive year.
Not to be outdone, W C Eagles Under 19s repeated as U19 National Cub Champions. In hot and humid conditions, they won their three Pool games against Nook (Pennsylvania) 8 – 0, Richmond Panthers (Virginia) 5 – 0, and Field Hockey Life (Ohio) 3 – 0. In the Quarter Finals they defeated North East Elite (Massachusetts) 5 – 1, followed by a 12 – 0 win over New Heights (New Jersey) in the Semi-Final, and maintained their winning ways with a 2 – 0 score line over X-Calibur (Pennsylvania) in the Final. In the medal presentation, Kelly Smith was awarded the MVP of the U19 Tournament.“I was very proud of our players when they won all three age groups last year”, commented Head Coach Jun Kentwell, “To come back and repeat that success this year was amazing and says a lot about our players commitment to excellence and how they play for each other”.
